Living in regional and remote areas can present so many health challenges. On average, Australians in these areas face:
shorter life spans
higher rates of disease and injury
fewer opportunities to access the health services many metropolitan residents take for granted.
The Western Queensland channel country:
spans nearly 220,000 sq km - about the size of Victoria - covering 13% of the state’s land area
1,100 residents of these communities don’t have access to a locally based doctor or pharmacy
communities rely heavily on local nurses, visiting health services, and the Royal Flying Doctor Service (RFDS).
